Quiz Generator: Options for Improving Academic Ethics Compliance

The Quiz Generator has a few options that you can enable which can help improve academic ethics compliance by students. By default, CoursePlus tracks student activity when taking a quiz. You can enable three other options in the appropriate settings to enhance compliance.

Note: The quiz must count toward the student's final grade in the class for any of these options to be enabled.

How to Require Students to Sign an Academic Ethics Pledge When Taking a Quiz

1. Click Quiz Generator under Activities and Assignments on the main Faculty Tools page.
2. For a new quiz, click Create a Quiz at the top of the main Quiz Generator page.
3. For an existing quiz, click the title of the quiz on the main Quiz Generator page.
4. For an existing quiz, click Setup.
5. Under the Quiz Setup tab when you create or edit a quiz, find the Require the student to sign their name to the academic ethics code before submitting their answers? option.
6. Select Yes for Require the student to sign their name to the academic ethics code before submitting their answers?
7. Save your changes.

How to Mark a Quiz as Closed Book

1. Click Quiz Generator under Activities and Assignments on the main Faculty Tools page.
2. For a new quiz, click Create a Quiz at the top of the main Quiz Generator page.
3. For an existing quiz, click the title of the quiz on the main Quiz Generator page.
4. For an existing quiz, click Setup.
5. Under the Quiz Setup tab when you create or edit a quiz, find the Is this an open book quiz/exam? option.

7. Select No for Is this an open book quiz/exam?
8. Save your changes.

How to Enable Detailed Tracking of Student Activity in a Quiz

1. Click Quiz Generator under Activities and Assignments on the main Faculty Tools page.
2. For a new quiz, click Create a Quiz at the top of the main Quiz Generator page.
3. For an existing quiz, click the title of the quiz on the main Quiz Generator page.
4. For an existing quiz, click Setup.
5. Under the Quiz Setup tab when you create or edit a quiz, find the This is a high-stakes exam. option.

7. Select Yes for This is a high-stakes exam.
8. Save your changes.

Important: In order to add detailed tracking to the student activity log when taking a quiz, CoursePlus must search through the raw server access logs. This is a computationally expensive process, and will not begin until after the student submits their answers to the quiz. It may take a day or more after the student submits their answers to the quiz before any additional activity information will appear in the student activity log.
