There are a number of different ways that the Quiz Generator allows you to randomize the display order of questions, and, in some cases, the answers to questions. Randomization can be a powerful tool in preventing students from sharing answers with one another.
How to Randomize the Display Order of Questions in a Quiz
- Click Quiz Generator under Activities and Assignments on the main Faculty Tools page.
- For a new quiz, click Create a Quiz at the top of the main Quiz Generator page.
- For an existing quiz, click the title of the quiz on the main Quiz Generator page.
- For an existing quiz, click Setup.
- Under the Quiz Setup tab when you create or edit a quiz, find the Randomize the display order of questions? option.
- Select Yes for Randomize the display order of questions?
- Save your changes.
Note: If you select to display only a subset of all questions in the question pool available to a quiz, or use tag rule-based questions, display order is automatically randomized.
How to Randomize the Display Order of Questions in a Question Block
- Click Quiz Generator under Activities and Assignments on the main Faculty Tools page.
- For a new quiz, click Create a Quiz at the top of the main Quiz Generator page.
- For an existing quiz, click the title of the quiz on the main Quiz Generator page.
- For an existing quiz, click Setup.
- Under the Quiz Setup tab when you create or edit a quiz, find the Randomize display order of questions in question blocks? option.
- Select Yes for Randomize display order of questions in question blocks?
- If you want the first question in a block to always display first (because you're providing a data table for all questions in the block, for example), select Yes for Always display the first question assigned to a block first? All questions after the first question in each block will display in a random order to students.
- Save your changes.
Note: If you select to display only a subset of all questions in the question pool available to a quiz, or use tag rule-based questions, display order is automatically randomized.
