The Quiz Generator allows you to create a pool of questions available to a quiz and then perform simple, random selection of questions to include in the quiz for each student. Question selection in this method is purely random. If you want more control over the questions selected, please look at tag rule-based quizzes.
How to Randomly Select Questions for Inclusion in a Quiz
- Click Quiz Generator under Activities and Assignments on the main Faculty Tools page.
- For a new quiz, click Create a Quiz at the top of the main Quiz Generator page.
- For an existing quiz, click the title of the quiz on the main Quiz Generator page.
- For an existing quiz, click Setup.
- Under the Quiz Setup tab when you create or edit a quiz, find the Display all questions, or use subset? option.
- Select Subset for Display all questions, or use subset?
- Select Random subset for Type of subset to use?
- Enter the total number of questions you want displayed to students in the Total number of questions to use box.
- Save your changes.
Note: If the pool of questions available to a quiz includes question blocks, the Quiz Generator factors the number of questions in the block when determining whether or not to include that block in the random question selection.
Important: If the pool of questions available to a quiz includes extra credit questions, it is possible that an extra credit question could be pulled in for some students but not others. In this scenario, it may make more sense to utilize tag rule-based quizzes.
