Proctored exams are possible in CoursePlus and in the physical classroom on campus. Some of your options are listed below.
Proctor an Exam in an On-Campus Environment
You can use CoursePlus in combination with active invigilation to proctor exams in an on-campus environment. You do not have to use CoursePlus to facilitate the process, but using CoursePlus can make the scoring process much faster.
If you decide to use CoursePlus to facilitate proctoring an exam in the on-campus environment, you should aim to do the following:
- Use an appropriate setup for your exam, like the one detailed in the example of setting up a final exam.
- Open and close the exam in a very limited time window. You can set the opening and closing dates for the exam in the quiz setup.
- Give clear instructions to students as to what is and is not allowed, including navigating off the exam page during the exam period.
Proctor an Exam in a Fully Online Environment
In order to proctor an exam in a fully online environment using CoursePlus, you should aim to do the following:
- Use an appropriate setup for your exam, like the one detailed in the example of setting up a final exam.
- Enable a password for your exam. This requires the use of student-selected proctors and the coordination of proctor selection well in advance of the exam period.
- Open and close the exam in a limited time window — one day, for example. You can set the opening and closing dates for the exam in the quiz setup.
- Give clear instructions to students as to what is and is not allowed, including navigating off the exam page while taking the exam.
Important: CoursePlus does not directly support tools like Respondus LockDown Browser or remote proctoring tools like ProctorU. BSPH leadership has determined that these kinds of tools are highly invasive and may violate student privacy laws in a number of countries.
