Quiz sets are literally a set of quizzes that appear as a single quiz to students. You can increase exam security by having CoursePlus pick one quiz out of a set for a student to take when the student starts taking a quiz. This is the equivalent of having two (or more) stacks of exams in a classroom, and randomly picking one of the exams to give to each student as they walk into the classroom.
A quiz set is comprised of one or more quizzes that already exist in the Quiz Generator for your course. Each quiz that goes into a set must be set up before you can create a quiz set that includes that quiz. You can have as many quizzes in a set as you want. However, all quizzes in the set must have the same total point value for all questions in each individual quiz. This prevents you from having some students get assigned a quiz with 45 points while other students get assigned a quiz with 50 points.
The settings for the quiz set override the settings of any individual quiz in the set. You don't need to spend time configuring all the setup details of each quiz in a set because the settings on the quiz set itself (eg; open and close date, time allowed to complete, display of results, etc) override whatever settings are created for each individual quiz in the set.
Once you create a quiz set, the set is treated exactly like any other quiz or exam in the Quiz Generator. You manage everything — including student grading and special permissions — through a single quiz. Managing the questions or seeing the answer key for the quizzes in a quiz set does require that you drop down to the individual, component quiz and make the changes there.
Quizzes in a quiz set are also automatically hidden from the listing of quizzes shown to students in course sites that use the Class Sessions tool. This prevents students from directly accessing a single quiz in a set.
How to Create a Quiz Set
Important: The quizzes that go in to a quiz set must be created before you can add those quizzes to a quiz set.
- Click Quiz Generator under Activities and Assignments on the main Faculty Tools page.
- Click Quiz Sets at the top of the page.
- CoursePlus will display the list of quizzes in your class.
- Click the checkmarks under Select Quiz for at least two quizzes from the list.
- Click Create Set.
- The quiz set will appear in the list of all quizzes. It will be highlighted as a quiz set by a yellow pillbox. The quizzes that are a part of the set will be listed immediately below the quiz set.
Remember: Most of your work will now occur in the quiz set. You will only need to make edits to the quizzes that make up the set if you need to change questions. For example:
- Edit the quiz open/due dates — Click into the quiz set
- Score individual student responses — Click into the quiz set
- Handle special permissions for a student to take the quiz — Click into the quiz set
- Edit a question in one of the quizzes — Edit the appropriate quiz
- Change an answer to a question — Edit the appropriate quiz
Any changes you make to the quizzes that make up the quiz set will always require that all quizzes in the set have the same total point value for all questions in each quiz.
