The Syllabus Builder and the BSPH Course System

For official, academic courses at the Bloomberg School of Public Health, the Syllabus Builder pulls in some content from the BSPH course system — the official system of record for courses at BSPH. The following sections of content are automatically pulled into every syllabus in CoursePlus from the BSPH course system:

  • Course Description
  • Course Learning Objectives
  • Why Take This Course
  • Intended Audience
  • Methods of Assessment
  • Prerequisites

You can edit all of these sections in the Syllabus Builder tool and send those changes back to the BSPH course system for approval. 

Important: Changes to these sections of content will not be seen by students until you submit your edits to the BSPH course system for review. Once you submit your edits to the BSPH course system, you will not be able to edit these sections in CoursePlus until your submitted edits are reviewed and approved as part of the normal course system change workflow.

The review process in the BSPH course system is usually handled by your departmental academic coordinator, and should take a few days, or less. Once your edits are approved, they will automatically be pushed to CoursePlus and visible to students. You can repeat this cycle as often as you wish, until the first day of the term in which the course is offered.

Important: These sections of content cannot be updated in the Syllabus Builder after the first day of the academic term in which the course begins. After that point, you must work with your department's academic coordinator to make changes to these sections of content.

 

How to Send Your Changes to the BSPH Course System for Approval

  1. Click Syllabus Builder under Content Tools on the main faculty tools page.
  2. Make all changes needed to the above listed sections.

  3. Click Send all changes to the course system for approval.

  4. Click Proceed.

  5. You will see a status update at the top of the page indicating that your changes are pending approval.

It's important to make all changes needed before sending changes to the course system for approval. All sections linked to the course system will not be editable until your changes have been approved.
