The Syllabus Builder tool helps you to build a contract between you and your students about what your course entails that is based on a standardized course syllabus template. The tool provides a number of different kinds of sections for you use, as well as the ability to adding your own custom sections of content.
For official, academic courses at the Bloomberg School of Public Health, the Syllabus Builder pulls in some content from the BSPH course system — the official system of record for courses at BSPH. The following sections of content are automatically pulled into every syllabus in CoursePlus from the BSPH course system:
- Course Description
- Course Learning Objectives
- Why Take This Course
- Intended Audience
- Methods of Assessment
- Prerequisites
You can edit all of these sections in the Syllabus Builder tool and send those changes back to the BSPH course system for approval.
Additionally, the Syllabus Builder tool offers a wide variety of pre-built sections of content you can add to your syllabus. These pre-built sections provide both guidance on what information to provide in that section and example text that can be quickly inserted into the rich text editor for you to customize.
You can preview what the syllabus will look like to students. Each section provides a preview of the information as students will see it, as well as information on current draft status if the section is linked to the BSPH course system. You also have the option to reorder the sections and even print the syllabus as PDF document.
