A course syllabus in CoursePlus is made up of individual sections of content. All BSPH course system-linked sections are updated from the course system each time an offering is created and are updated in real-time with any changes made in the BSPH course system. All other sections of content on your syllabus are copied from the previous offering of the course.
Required Sections
Required sections of content appear in all course syllabi. The following sections are required on all course syllabi and are linked to the BSPH course system:
- Course Description
- Course Learning Objectives
- Why Take This Course
- Intended Audience
- Methods of Assessment
- Prerequisites
These sections have a link icon next to their name in the Syllabus Builder tool.
There are additional required sections which can be edited or reordered but not deleted from the syllabus:
- Academic Ethics and Student Conduct Code (existing text not editable, can add additional text)
Finally, there are additional required sections which cannot be edited, reordered, or deleted from the syllabus:
- Student Health and Well-Being
- Students with Disabilities - Accommodations and Accessibility
Note: If a section linked to the BSPH course system has no content in it, it will not appear in the student or printed view of the syllabus.
Recommended and Optional Sections
Pre-built recommended and optional sections of content are available from the + New Section menu at the top-right of the Syllabus Builder tool. There are many options to choose from. Simply click the title of the recommended or optional section that you would like to add to the syllabus. A window will appear that lets you type in your own custom text or follow an example provided by the Center for Teaching and Learning. You can copy the example text to the rich text editor window for further customization with one click.
Custom Sections
Custom sections are ones that are not already listed in pre-built recommended and optional sections. Add custom sections for information that's not already available with existing sections. You can add a custom section from either the + Add Custom Section button at the bottom of the Syllabus Builder, or click the + New Section menu at the top-right of the Syllabus Builder tool.
