Why would you want to exclude a question from scoring?
Let's say that students have reported that a question in a quiz is a "bad question," and you agree that it's a poorly worded question. You may not want this question included in the students' final score for this quiz. You can exclude this one question from scoring, even if some, but not all, students have taken that quiz already.
Important: Removing a question from a quiz will not delete that question from quizzes where students have already started taking a quiz. It is much better to exclude a question from scoring than to remove a question from a quiz once students have already started taking a quiz.
Note: If you mark an extra credit question as excluded from scoring, it will not count as extra credit toward a student grade on a quiz. However, you can change a question into an extra credit after students complete a quiz. You'll then need to recalculate student grades to see the change.
How to Exclude a Question from Scoring
- Click Quiz Generator under Activities and Assignments on the main Faculty Tools page.
- Click the quiz title on the main Quiz Generator page.
- Click the Overview tab.
- Click Edit next to the question you want to exclude.
- Click Yes next to Do you want to exclude the question from scoring?
- Click Edit Question button at the bottom of the page.
The question will still appear to students who have not yet taken the quiz, but will be excluded from scoring when they submit their responses.
Note: If you exclude a question when students have already submitted responses, you will have to recalculate those grades in order for the grades to appear correctly.
