A question block is a group of questions that will always appear together in a quiz. Question blocks are useful if the questions have related content or a common reference, such as a related table connected to all questions in the block.
When you use a question block in a quiz, each question in the block counts as one question in the quiz. For example, if you have three questions in a single question block, that counts as three individual questions in the quiz. The block format is only used to keep related questions together when it comes to displaying or randomizing question selection for use in a quiz.
Note: The questions inside question blocks can be weighted differently in all instances except tag rule-based quizzes. Because of how question selection works in a tag rule-based quiz, all questions inside a block must have the same weight.

How to Change the Order of Questions in a Block
By default, questions are displayed in a question block in the same order in which you added the question to the block. You can easily change this.
- Click Quiz Generator under Activities and Assignments on the main Faculty Tools page.
- Click the Question Bank at the top of the main Quiz Generator page.
- Find the question block in the list of all questions. Question blocks are indicated with the text QUESTION BLOCK in blue.
- Click Edit next to the appropriate question block.
- On the question block editing form, scroll down to the display of questions. Currently selected questions are at the top of the listing of all questions.
- Click and hold anywhere in the blue for the question you want to move.
- Drag and drop the question to its appropriate order.
- Click Update Question Block at the top of the page.
How to Randomize the Display Order of Questions in a Block
By default, all question blocks are displayed in the order displayed when you edit the question block, as described above. However, you can have the display order of questions in a block randomized when students take a quiz. You can also lock the first question into place so that it does not get randomized while all other questions in a block are displayed in a random order to the student taking the quiz. You would want to do this if you have a block with questions that are all related to a table or graph displayed in the first question in the block.
See Options for Randomizing Question Display Order for step-by-step instructions on how to do this.
