Files form the heart of the Online Library. You can upload any type of file to the Online Library as long as the file is under 2GB in size.
File Options
All files have the following optional metadata that can be set on each individual file:
File Title — This should be a human-readable title for students. If no file title is used, the file name is displayed in the Online Library instead.
Folder — The Online Library folder into which you want to place the file.
Description — An optional text description about the file and how it might be used or other additional annotative information.
Date Posted — The date that the file was posted to the Online Library. This information is displayed to students unless this option is turned off.
Link to Pages — If you use Page Builder in your CoursePlus site, you can link this file to a Page Builder page. The file is then displayed on the Page Builder page in the Online Library section of the page.
Link to Class Sessions — If you use the Class Sessions tool in your CoursePlus site, you can link this file to an individual class session. The file is then displayed in the box for the class session under the Online Library subheading.
Use Open Date — If you do not want the file displayed to students until a certain date, enter that here. Faculty and TAs can see the file before that date, but students cannot.
Use Close Date — If you want to remove access to the file after a certain date, enter that here. Faculty and TAs can see the file after that date, but students cannot.
Email Alert — If you would like to immediately send a short email to all students in the class that a the file was added to the Online Library, select this option.
Importance — If you would like to mark an item as Required, Reference, or Optional, select the appropriate label here. This information is displayed to students unless this option is turned off.
Additional Options:
Make this File Available For — If you have a file that you only want to use in the current offering of the class and not have that file copied into future offerings of the class, select This offering only from this menu.
Link to Syllabus — Selecting this checkbox makes the file visible on the public course Syllabus page in a section titled Files from the Online Library. Please note that "fair use" copyright law does not apply to items downloadable from the public course syllabus page.
Restrict Access — If you want to prevent specific students from accessing this file, select their names from this list.
How to Add a File to the Online Library
- Click Online Library under Content Tools > Course Resources on the main Faculty Tools page.
- Click Add File.
- Select the file you want to add from your computer.
- Fill out additional data options as needed.
- Click Add File at the end of the add file form.
Note: Large files may take several minutes to upload. A file upload progress meter is displayed during this process.
How to Edit a File in the Online Library
- Click Online Library under Content Tools > Course Resources on the main Faculty Tools page.
- Click the Edit button (pencil icon) next to the file you want to edit.
- When you edit an existing file entry in the Online Library, you can replace the file if you want. This lets you provide an updated version of a file without changing any of the optional data about the file.
- Fill out data options as needed.
- Click Edit File at the end of the edit file form.
