The Gradebook in CoursePlus is a flexible and robust tool. The Gradebook is made up of graded items and categories.
Gradebooks can be either points-based or percentage-based. In a points-based Gradebook, points are allocated to each graded item and then the student's final grade in the class is based on the total points that they receive. In a percentage-based Gradebook, all student work is calculated to be a percentage score between 0 and 100. The Gradebook will perform calculations to properly scale points-based items to their percentage-based equivalents.
A graded item is an activity in the class that can be graded. An activity can be a homework, project, quiz, exam, etc. You can link a graded item to a Discussion Forum category, a drop box, or a quiz, or you can create a standalone item to be graded.
A category can be used in the Gradebook to group together a number of related graded items. A category allows faculty to customize the Gradebook according to the designated methods of assessment stated in the syllabus. A category's function varies according to whether your Gradebook is points- or percentage-based.
