Gradebook Setup: Drop Highest/Lowest Grade in Category

The drop highest and lowest grades in a category option is only available for a percentage-based Gradebook. All graded items in a category must be weighted equally in order to drop the lowest and/or highest grade(s). Keep in mind that the lowest and/or highest grade for every individual student will be dropped.

Tip: You can drop a graded item with the lowest grade and another graded item with the highest grade for the same category.

How to Drop Lowest/Highest Grades in a Category

1. Click Set Up Gradebook from any page in the Gradebook.
2. Click the Create Category button or Edit next to an existing category.
3. Select the Weight all graded items in this category equally.
4. Add graded items to the weighted category.
5. Click Edit next to the category.
6. Select the number of lowest/highest grades that you want to drop from the Drop the lowest/highest grade value(s) in this category drop down list.
7. Click Save.

Note: The weighted value that's displayed for each item reflects that one of the grades will not be factored into the final score calculation for that category.
