There are many, many ways to set up a quiz or exam in the Quiz Generator. The example walkthrough below assumes the following:
- The quiz takes place from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM.
- Students have up to 90 minutes to complete their quiz.
- Students should only be able to start the quiz from 9:00 AM to 9:15 AM.
An example where this kind of setup is useful is in large courses where a quiz is offered across multiple time slots. It also ensures that students who started the exam in the proper time slot will continue to have access even if they leave the page.

After Quiz Opens
Schedule Builder
- Shortly after 9:15 AM on the day of the quiz, go to the Content page and copy the link to the quiz. This will allow you to provide the direct link to any students who start late.
- Enter Schedule Builder by selecting Edit the Schedule at the top of the Content page.
- Edit the Schedule Builder event and select None for Associate Event with. This will remove the existing link that pointed to the quiz.
- Select Save.
Note: Removing the quiz link in Schedule Builder in this way is preferable to editing the Access Ends date. This is because it allows students who get kicked out or have to temporarily leave the quiz page to get back in to the quiz.
Following all of the above steps will make it so that any student who begins within the correct window will receive the full hour and a half. However, students will only be able to start the quiz within the first 15 minutes.
If there are students who miss this window, having the direct link to the quiz will allow you to provide it to students on a case-by-case basis. You can also use the Special Permissions tool for more specific options.
