The Discussion Forum Category/Topic Responses Report provides information on the cumulative number of responses in the Discussion Forum of a course site.
How to See the Discussion Forum Category/Topic Responses Report
- Navigate to the Faculty Tools page in your course site.
- Find Administrative Tools > Student Activity Reports.
- Under Discussion Forum, click Who responded to each category/topic.
There are two main columns in this report: the left side which lists categories/topics and their response rates, and the right side which lists the names of students who did/did not respond.
- Each category and topic in the Discussion Forum is listed on the left. At a glance, you can see the number of students who have responded to a category/topic under Responded. You can also see the number of students who have not responded to a category/topic under Not Responded.
- Clicking the title of a category/topic on the left will display a list of color-coded student names in the right column. Students who have not responded to the category/topic are listed first in a dark red. Conversely, students who have responded are listed in plain black text at the bottom of the list.
At the top of the report, there is a Filter List. By default, All Categories/Topics are displayed, but you can choose to display Only with Responses or Only without Responses.

- On the main Faculty Tools page in your course site, find Administrative Tools > Student Activity Reports.
- Under Discussion Forum, click Who responded to each category/topic.
- Click Excel in the top left of the page.
