The Portfolio tool has three main goals:
- Encourage students to reflect on what they have learned across courses during a degree program.
- Facilitate interaction between students and their faculty reviewers/advisors.
- Provide tools for program management to track student progress within a program.
Students interact with a portfolio through a series of touchpoints — tasks which either:
- Ask students to reflect on some aspect of their learning process in the program, to self-rate on competencies set out by the program, and provide evidence of achieving those competencies, OR
- Perform a task and provide documentation of performing that task.
Faculty reviewers can be assigned to review individual touchpoints, and provide feedback to students in the portfolio. Administrative staff have tools which let them see which students need to complete which touchpoints, and remind faculty to review student work (if faculty review is required).
A student cannot be both a student and an admin in the same portfolio. However, a student can be a student in one portfolio and an admin in another portfolio.
In order to use the Portfolio tool in your program, you must perform the following tasks in the following order:
- Create program competencies in a competency set.
- Create a cohort and assign them a competency set.
- Add touchpoints to the cohort.
- Add students to the cohort.
- Add faculty reviewers.
- Assign students to faculty reviewers.
