Viewing lectures is a core component of CoursePlus, especially in fully online courses. The information below breaks down the various aspects of the video player page.
1. Report Problem, Auto-Play, Download Text, Hide Transcript
- Report Problem: A place to submit any issues you note with the video, audio, or slide content, or with the transcript. The description of the problem should be as detailed as possible and include a timestamp.
-
Auto-Play: A toggle that enables/disables auto-play within a lecture. If enabled, the following lecture section will automatically play at the end of the current section (until reaching the last section of a lecture). The chosen preference carries over across different lectures and courses.
- For auto-play to function properly, your browser must have the correct settings. For more information, refer to Enabling Auto-Play in Chrome/Safari.
- Download Text: Allows you to download the transcript of the lecture section. The downloaded file will be the .txt file type.
- Hide Transcript: Allows you to hide the transcript located to the right of the video. You can select the button again to bring back the transcript.
2. Transcript and Search
- Transcript: A running transcript that accompanies the video as it plays. The transcript is synchronized so that the words being spoken are bolded. As an alternative to scrubbing through the video, you can select a word in the transcript and jump to that point in the video.
- Search Video: Allows you to search keywords in the transcript. Any matching keywords will be highlighted. When performing multi-word searches, enclose the search in quotation marks (" ") to search for that phrase specifically.
3. Jump Forward/Back
- Jump Back: Allows you to jump back in the video by 15 seconds. Alternatively, you can use the left arrow key or double-click the left side of the video screen.
- Jump Forward: Allows you to jump forward in the video by 15 seconds. Alternatively, you can use the right arrow key or double-click the right side of the video screen.
4. Speed Control
- Speed: Located in the bottom right corner of the video player, this menu allows you to switch to faster or slower playback speeds.
5. Lecture Navigation
- Previous Section: Allows you to go back to the previous section of a lecture without having to return to the main lecture page.
- Return to Lecture: Allows you to go back to the main lecture page with the list of all lecture sections.
- Next Section: Allows you to proceed to the next section of a lecture without having to return to the main lecture page.
- Previous Lecture: Allows you to go back to the previous lecture without having to return to the Content page.
- Next Lecture: Allows you to proceed to the next lecture without having to return to the Content page.
