With special permissions, it is possible to allow students to access quizzes outside of their normal dates on a student-by-student basis. However, you may wish to allow all students in the course to access a quiz past the due date without manually setting permissions for each student. The process to achieve this is explained below.
How to Allow Late Submissions for All Students
Quiz Generator
- Select Quiz Generator under Activities and Assignments on the main Faculty Tools page.
- Select the quiz title on the main Quiz Generator page.
- Select the Setup tab.
- Set the Access ends date to the end of term, or whatever the latest acceptable date would be.
- Select Save All Changes at the bottom of the page.
Schedule Builder
- Select Schedule Builder under Content Tools > Course Content on the main Faculty Tools page.
- Add the quiz to the schedule by linking it to a new or existing event.
- Deselect the Use the start/end dates currently set in Quiz Generator for this quiz checkbox.
- Set the Due Date to the expected date/time for students to complete the quiz. The Access Ends date should remain as set in Quiz Generator so that students can access the quiz past the due date.
Note: Having a different Due Date and Access Ends date is crucial to ensuring that students can still take the quiz past the deadline.
How to Determine Which Students Took the Quiz Late
Once the final date to accept quiz responses has passed, you can return to the Quiz Generator to determine which students completed the quiz on time and which ones completed it late.
- Select Quiz Generator under Activities and Assignments on the main Faculty Tools page.
- Select the quiz title on the main Quiz Generator page.
- Select the Responses and Grades tab.
- Under the Options column, select Excel File of All Student Responses and Scores. This will download an Excel file listing student's quiz attempts and associated data.
- Open the Excel file.
- Sort/filter the Completed On column to determine which students completed the quiz after the expected due date.
