Abandoned attempts occur when a student starts but does not submit answers to a quiz and the allotted time to take the quiz runs out. This can happen for any number of reasons including internet connectivity, personal hardware issues, or student forgetfulness. A student who abandoned their attempt on a quiz will have the words Abandoned Attempt displayed next to their name on the main Responses and Grades view in the Quiz Generator.
How to View Options for Handling an Abandoned Attempt
- Click Quiz Generator under Activities and Assignments on the main Faculty Tools page.
- Click the quiz title on the main Quiz Generator page.
- Click Responses and Grades in the main navigation bar at the top of the page.
- Find the student name in the list of all students.
- Click Abandoned Attempt next to their name.
You have a couple of options in dealing with an abandoned attempt:
Let the Student Take the Quiz Again
If you determine that the student should get another try on the quiz, you can click the Clear Student Answers to Allow Re-take button. This will wipe out the student's attempt, including any answers they did submit, and allow them to re-take the quiz. If the due date for the quiz has passed, you will need to give the student special permission to take the quiz outside of normal due dates.
Submit the Answers on Behalf of the Student
If the student answered all (or almost all) questions, you can scroll to the bottom of the listing of questions and answers and click Record The Answers Below as the Student's Final Answers. This will turn the student answers into a final answer set that can then be graded.
