Save a Discussion Forum Topic and Its Posts to Excel

You can save an entire topic in the Discussion Forum to an Excel file. This will result in you receiving a copy of every message that is posted in that topic. This is a great option if you want a thorough report that includes every post for a particular topic, along with relevant metadata. This metadata includes Posted By (the poster's name), Posted On (date/time), Post Content (the text of the post), Post ID, and Response to Post ID.

Post ID is a unique back-end identifier for each post within the Discussion Forum. Response to Post ID indicates whether or not a post is in response to another post: "0" if it is an original post, or the Post ID of the post being responded to.

How to Save a Discussion Forum Topic to Excel

  1. Click Discussion Forum under Communication Tools on the main Faculty Tools page.
  2. Click the topic you want to save on the Discussion Forum home view.
  3. Click the Save to Excel link at the top of the topic page.
