Wikis: Managing Read or Write Access

Students with read access to a wiki can view and comment (if option is enabled) on all wiki pages, but they can't make any changes. Students with write access to a wiki can make changes to the content of all wiki pages.

By default, everyone is given read and write access when a wiki is created. You can hide the wiki until you're ready to make it available to students.

 

How to Set Read or Write Access for Everyone

  1. Click Wikis under Communication Tools on the main faculty tools page.
  2. From the main Course Wikis page, click Edit Settings under Faculty Actions for the appropriate wiki.

  1. To give everyone read access, select Allow everyone to read pages in this wiki under Read Access.
  2. To give everyone write access, select Allow everyone to write in pages in this wiki under Write Access.
  3. Click Update Wiki Settings.

 

How to Set Read or Write Access for Individuals and Groups

  1. Click Wikis under Communication Tools on the main faculty tools page.
  2. From the main Course Wikis page, click Edit Settings under Faculty Actions for the appropriate wiki. (See above)
  3. To give individuals or groups read access:
  4. Select Allow the individuals and groups listed below to read pages in this wiki under Read Access.
  5. The customize settings section will appear.
  6. Select the name or group from the Available Users and Groups box that you would like to give read access to and then click the Add to Readers button. The name or group will now appear in the Readers box. Repeat this step to give more students or groups read access.
  7. To give individuals or groups write access:
  8. Select Allow the individuals and groups listed below to add and edit content in this wiki under Write Access.
  9. The customize settings section will appear.
  10. Select the name or group from the Available Users and Groups box that you would like to give read access to and then click the Add to Writers button. The name or group will now appear in the Readers box. Repeat this step to give more students or groups write access.
  11. Click Update Wiki Settings.

 

Note: Anyone given write access to a wiki will also have read access.

 

Tip: To assign groups of students read or write access to a wiki, you first have to create Course Groups.
