The Discussion Forum tool allows you to restrict access to either an entire category or individual topics. When access is restricted to topics, those who don't have access will receive a message that the topic is locked instead of viewing its contents.
How to Restrict Access to a Specific Topic
- Click Discussion Forum under Communication Tools on the main Faculty Tools page.
- Click the topic on the Discussion Forum home view.
- Click the Topic Options link at the top of the page.
- Click into the Status dropdown menu and select Only faculty, TA, and staff can read and post. Everyone else can read but not post.

Click Save Changes.
The topic will remain visible to everyone. However, the individual topic will be locked to everyone except for the instructional team.
If you wish to make it so that only the instructional team can view the topic as well, select Only faculty, TA, and staff can read and post. No one else can read.
