Introduction to Online Learning (IOL) is a prerequisite course for all matriculating students at BSPH and for anyone who wants to take a fully online course in CoursePlus.
Students must complete IOL before being able to access certain online course sites in CoursePlus. Students who have not completed IOL will receive an email stating that they must do so before getting access to a fully online course for which they are registered. Students are not dropped in SIS if they do not complete IOL—CoursePlus cannot alter data in SIS in any way—but the course site will remain unavailable until IOL is completed.
IOL is typically offered twice a month, and the course is open only during the week of each offering. Students cannot complete course activities outside of the week in which the class runs.
Students can register for IOL on the home page of the course.
The IOL prerequisite is listed:
- In SIS when you register for a course
- On the individual course site on the visitor's view
- On the individual course site in the syllabus
- On all incoming orientation sites
- In the BSPH student handbook
Additionally, if you are a special student limited from outside JHU taking a couple of courses, the IOL prerequisite is mentioned multiple times during the process to apply to be a special student limited.
