CoursePlus Draft Coach is a tool that assists students by identifying areas for improvement in their writing. The basic workflow is that students can upload a document to the tool and then receive AI-generated feedback via email.
The tool was developed in collaboration with BSPH faculty to address equitable integration of AI in support of teaching and learning. It is only available to students inside a current term's course site when faculty have enabled its use. In other words, faculty can choose whether or not to make it available to students for the duration of their course(s). Furthermore, the tool should be seen as a complement to other BSPH resources, including the Writing Center.
Student usage of the tool is documented in a report that is available to faculty and staff. This report only captures your name, date/time of uploads, number of uploads, and file names. Your document(s) and any generated feedback are not accessible to faculty. Your document remains private to you and is not used to train AI in any way.
How to Use CoursePlus Draft Coach
Before CoursePlus Draft Coach can be used in a course site, it must first be enabled by faculty. If the tool has been enabled, follow these steps:
- Navigate to Draft Coach under the Resources dropdown menu on any course page.
- Read the acknowledgment if it is your first time using the tool in a course site.
- Click the I confirm I have read and understood the guidelines and limitations listed above checkbox.
- Upload a file by dragging one into the box, or clicking into the box and using the file browser.
- An analysis of the uploaded document will be sent to the email address associated with your CoursePlus account within 5-10 minutes.
The analysis email is structured in a very specific format. The output evaluates your content, evidence, contextual relevance, writing quality, and style/tone. The email also offers specific improvements for your work. Linked here is an example of the email you will receive.
Note: While the turnaround time is typically less than ten minutes, this can be impacted by several factors, including the number of people using the tool at a given time. If you do not see the email, check your spam/junk folder.
Important:
- You can only use the CoursePlus Draft Coach in sites where it has been enabled by faculty.
- You can only upload once every 24 hours in each course.
- The tool does not write or re-write any content. Instead, it evaluates what you have already written.
-
The tool works best on documents with a single theme or overarching goal. It does not work well on homework or exam-style documents with many different questions.
- You can upload Word, PDF, or text files. The tool will only accept files smaller than 5MB in size.
- If a file is uploaded without enough useful content to assess, you will be notified and allowed to try uploading a new file.
- Faculty can see who submitted to this tool, when, and how many times. They cannot access the files you submit, nor the AI-generated feedback.
