Faculty and TAs have the ability to make class session pages available to students regardless of the date associated with the event in the schedule. This is especially useful for on-campus courses that need to make session information available to students before the date/time of the session itself.
For every Page Builder page linked to the schedule, an Always Available (overwrites "Available" date) checkbox is displayed in the settings. Selecting this checkbox means that the link to the Page Builder page will always be available to students. In other words, it does not matter what the Available On date is—the link will always be available on the Content page. The Available On date will still be displayed to students as Date on the Content page (assuming it has not been masked), but it becomes irrelevant in determining whether or not the link is active.
How to Make a Class Session Page Available Before the Class Session Date
- Click Schedule Builder on the main Faculty Tools page.
- Click on the light blue bar for the appropriate event in the schedule. If you still need to create a Page Builder page and link it to the schedule, do this first.
- Click the Always Available (overwrites "Available" date) checkbox. With this enabled, the link will always be active, regardless of any other date displayed.
- If you wish to display a date for the session, enter this date in the Available On field. On the Content page, students will see this listed under the Date column.
- If you do not wish to display a date for the session, you may consider clicking the Mask Available Date checkbox. Masking the available date can be a good idea if the event links to a page students will refer to throughout the course.
- Click Save.
Important: The option to make an event link always available is only possible for events associated with Page Builder pages. This checkbox is off by default, which means it must be manually selected for every relevant item on the schedule.
Note: Even if you set events on the schedule to be always available and/or mask the available date, it may still be beneficial to set a relevant Available On date. That is because the date entered in that field will be picked up by the "Daily Course Notifications" emails that are sent out to students.
