Questions in an ILQ are displayed one at a time in an overlay to the standard online lecture playback view in CoursePlus. After you have added questions to your quiz, you need to specify when each question should appear during lecture playback. There is a simple, intuitive page which lets you do exactly this.
You can adjust timings as you see fit, and add or remove questions, just as you would for any other quiz in the Quiz Generator. If you have questions that are assigned to an ILQ but haven't been given timings, you'll be warned if you try to preview the quiz or view the lecture section via the lecture page itself.
You can have In-Lecture "Quizzes" that don't ask any questions but instead only contain text displayed to students. You can also mix both standard quiz questions with text-only inserts in the same In-Lecture Quiz.
How to Insert Questions into an In-Lecture Quiz
Note: You can only perform these steps after you add questions to the In-Lecture Quiz.
- Click Quiz Generator under Activities and Assignments on the main Faculty Tools page.
- Click the title of the In-Lecture Quiz.
- Click Question Manager.
- Click Manage In-Lecture Question Timings.
- There are two ways to insert questions into the lecture video:
- Using Timestamps: You can provide the timestamp of when you want the question to appear by typing the hour, minute, and second where you want an ILQ question to be displayed.
- Using Video Timeline: You can click through the video timeline bar and click the blue insert icon( ). This will auto populate the timestamp code for that question.
Note: It's important to note that due to browser limitations regarding playback of video, questions must be inserted at least three (3) seconds apart. This includes the start of the video, so you can't have a question in the first three seconds of the lecture.
Remember: Students will not see the in–lecture quiz until all questions in the quiz are added to lecture playback.
