The AI Review Quiz Maker is a feature available inside CTL-produced online lecture pages. The tool uses an enterprise subscription of ChatGPT to generate questions and answers based on the transcripts of course lectures. The output from this tool, which is sent out via email, also provides an explanation to accompany each correct answer.
Each generated question—the number of which are determined by the user—is formatted to match the Quiz Generator question types, though it is important to note that this tool does not automatically build a quiz in the Quiz Generator. As with output from any artificial intelligence tool, the content should be reviewed critically and edited for accuracy and grammar. You can then distribute the questions to students as you see fit, whether that be through the Quiz Generator or some other format. For example, the text can be implemented in a separate document or other activity in the course.
How to Generate a Review Quiz with AI
- Click Page Builder on the main Faculty Tools page.
- Make sure that the Pages tab is selected. It's selected by default.
- Find the page with the lecture materials that you wish to generate questions for. Click the Edit button (pencil icon) to the right of that page listing.
- Within the Lecture Materials box, click AI Review Quiz Maker.
- This will display more information about the tool as well as a dropdown for Number of Questions to Create.
- Select the number of questions you want to generate using the dropdown menu. You can generate 5, 10, or 20 questions at a time.
- Click Generate a Review Quiz.
- The questions are generated and an email is sent to your inbox within a few minutes.
Note: If your lecture has more than four sections, you will receive two emails. Each email will cover the content of half of the lecture sections. This is done to ensure that the content in the transcript doesn’t exceed GPT-4o’s available “memory,” also known as the context window.
You are welcome to use these sets of questions and answers in any capacity, and it is ultimately up to you to decide if any of the questions will be useful as generated or with modifications. Considering the questions are formatted to be compatible with the Quiz Generator, we recommend continuing to that tool to create a quiz should you find the output useful.
Important:
- The content of your lecture will not be used to train ChatGPT in any way, and is deleted immediately after use. Learn more about the enterprise subscription of ChatGPT being used.
- You can use this tool as many times as you want. Different questions will be generated each time.
- This tool only generates questions, answers, and explanations for the correct answers. It does not build a quiz in the Quiz Generator for you.
- This tool is only available to faculty and TAs.
