Before students can access the site for a course and before any adjustments can be made, a site must first be set up. There are two options when setting up a course site: setting up a blank course site, or setting up a course site from a copy.
For fully online courses, the instructional designer assigned to a course must set up the site, as faculty are not able to perform this action. For on-campus courses, the faculty must set up the course site themselves.
Set Up a Blank Course Site
This option makes sense if a course has never been offered before, there have been fundamental changes in the way a course will be taught, or if you would just prefer to start with a clean slate.
- Navigate to the CoursePlus home page.
- Under the My Courses tab, locate the course you wish to set up. If necessary, expand the appropriate academic year and term bars by clicking on them.
- Next to the appropriate course, click Set Up Site for This Course.
- Click on the orange Create a blank site button.
Set Up a Course Site from a Copy
This option makes sense if there are previous offerings of a course within CoursePlus, and the content is remaining mostly or completely the same. This is often the case if you teach the same course term after term or year after year.
Setting up a course site from a copy will carry over any content that was set up previously, such as the course schedule, files in the Online Library, etc.
- Navigate to the CoursePlus home page.
- Under the My Courses tab, locate the course you wish to set up. If necessary, expand the appropriate academic year and term bars by clicking on them.
- Next to the appropriate course, click Set Up Site for This Course.
- There will be a list of the available, previous offerings to copy from. Determine which academic year/term you wish to copy from, and click the blue Copy button to the left of that listing.
Important: Copying over a course site does not necessarily mean all of the copied information will still be accurate. For example, some tweaks to the schedule may be necessary to make the new site in line with the current academic term/year.
Note: If there are no previous offerings of a course, you will either have to create a blank site (see above) or request to copy from a different course by putting in a ticket with CTL Help.
