When you create a Manually Assigned Peer Assessment, there is an additional step to finish the setup: creating the manual assignments. This should typically be done before the assessment opens, but you may also need to make changes to the assignments after it opens.
Note: You cannot manually assign students in a Peer Assessment unless the assessment type is set to Manually Assigned.
How to Manually Assign Students in a Peer Assessment
- Click Peer Assessments under Activities and Assignments on the main Faculty Tools page.
- On the main Peer Assessment page, click the title of the assessment you want to create assignments for.
- Select Manual Assignments among the tabs at the top of the page.
- Students in the course will be listed as Evaluators on the left. Click in each of the Assignments boxes to manually assign other students. You can type in the names of students or find them in the list.
- Once you are satisfied with the assignments, click Save Changes at the bottom of the form.
Note: You can add as many students to an assessor’s Assignments list as you would like. You may also reuse students, meaning multiple assessors can assess the same student(s).
Making Adjustments to Manual Assignments
There are not many scenarios which should require changes to manual assignments once they have been set. However, one scenario that will require a different approach is when an assessment opens before the end of the "add period" for a given academic term, and students add the course after the assessment opens to the class. In this situation, you cannot add the students who added the course into the assessment.
The best solution in this situation (as long as no one has interacted with the “incomplete” assessment) is to create a brand new Peer Assessment that includes the newly added students and link it to the same Drop Box.
Alternatively, you can duplicate the Peer Assessment that already opened, add all of the students who added the class after the original assessment began, and have those students assess each other. You can even link this additional assessment to the same Drop Box as the original.
