Creating a Peer Assessment involves two separate but equally important parts:
- Determine the settings for the assessment, including the type of assessment.
- Create a rubric that will be used during the assessment.
How to Create a New Peer Assessment: The Settings
- Click Peer Assessments under Activities and Assignments on the main Faculty Tools page.
- On the main Peer Assessment page, click New Peer Assessment.
- (Required) Enter the Title of this Peer Assessment.
- (Required) Select the Opens to students on and Assessment due by dates for the assessment. Clicking the date fields brings up a calendar that can be used to easily select the date and time. Select the date and use the vertical scrolls to select a time.
- (Required) Select the type of assessment that you want.
- If you are creating a group-based assessment, groups must be created before you create the Peer Assessment.
- Depending on the type of assessment, select the following options:
- Randomly Assigned:
- Select the number of assessments each student will complete.
- Select if you want students to see each other's names.
- Students Assess Their Group Members:
- Select which group(s) you want to participate in the assessment.
- Select if you want students to self-grade as well.
- Everyone Evaluates One Group:
- Select the group you want to be assessed.
- Group Assesses Other Group:
- Select which group(s) you want to participate in the assessment and which group they will be assessing.
- The Manually Assigned and Individual assessment types have no custom options.
- If you want the Peer Assessment to be linked to a Drop Box, select the appropriate Drop Box from the Link to a Drop Box menu.
- If you want to link the Peer Assessment to a Page Builder page (for courses using Schedule Builder) or to a class session (for courses using the Class Sessions tool), select the page or session.
- Click Save and continue to rubric.
You're done with the Peer Assessment settings. Now you need to continue on to create the rubric.
How to Edit the Settings for a Peer Assessment
- Click Peer Assessments under Activities and Assignments on the main Faculty Tools page.
- On the main Peer Assessment page, click the Edit button (pencil icon) to the right of the assessment you want to edit.
- Select Edit Assessment Settings.
- Make changes as needed. Settings are explained, above.
- Click Update and continue to rubric.
Important: Assessment settings are locked one hour prior to the opening of an assessment so that the individual student assignments can be created. No changes can be made from one hour before assessment opening and when the assessment opens to students. Once an assessment opens, you cannot change the Opens to students on date.
