Plagiarism detection services approved by the university include Turnitin and iThenticate. Other AI detection tools are not permitted. If a violation of academic integrity involving AI is suspected, faculty should contact Jon Vernick, Director of Academic Integrity. More information specific to AI can be found on the FAQs section of the AI in Teaching and Learning Toolkit page.
Turnitin is licensed by the University. For access to Turnitin, faculty and their TAs can submit a request to CTL Help. There is no cost to use this service. CTL will provide you with a Turnitin account directly.
A similar service, iThenticate, is useful for research and graduate scholarship, including journal pre-publication checks; however, for this service, faculty must establish their own personal accounts. There will be a cost center charge for iThenticate. To get started, submit a request to CTL Help. We will coordinate with IT@JH to help establish the account.
